چکیده

Abstract: Heart assist devices provide mechanical circulatory support for patients with end-stage heart failure. Extracorporeal heart assist devices are applied to adult and pediatric patients in the case of uniand biventricular assistance. Modern driving units provide more mobility what is an immense benefit to the quality of life of the patients. The treated heart assist device in this article is the EXCOR system (Berlin Heart GmbH, Germany). This device is pneumatically operated by a piston drive. Pump assistance for the native heart of the patient should be provided by an automatic control system. This could be achieved by the control of the piston movement and the enclosed air mass in the pneumatic system. The model based design of a control system for the extracorporeal assist device is described in this paper.

Design an Equivalent Left Ventricular Assist Device for Medical Equipment Labs

LVAD is a mechanical pump supporting a weak heart function and blood flow. Sometimes, the heart may not recover fast enough to take over the pumping action immediately after surgery, in such patients a temporary support device has been employed to maintain the pumping action until the patient’s own heart recovers. This device can be considered as a temporary alternative before the process of ar...

Letter by Singh Regarding Article, "Berlin Heart EXCOR pediatric ventricular assist device for bridge to heart transplantation in US children".

BACKGROUND Recent data suggest that the Berlin Heart EXCOR Pediatric ventricular assist device is superior to extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for bridge to heart transplantation. Published data are limited to 1 in 4 children who received the device as part of the US clinical trial. We analyzed outcomes for all US children who received the EXCOR to characterize device outcomes in an unselect...

Improvement of Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) in Artificial Heart Using Particle Swarm Optimization

In this approach, the Left ventricular assist pump for patients with left ventricular failure isused. The failure of the left ventricle is the most common heart disease during these days. Inthis article, a State feedback controller method is used to optimize the efficiency of a samplingpump current. Particle Swarm Algorithm, which is a set of rules to update the position andvelocity, is applied...

Successful bridge to recovery in fulminant myocarditis using a biventricular assist device: a case report

BACKGROUND Fulminant myocarditis is a life-threatening disease, and myocardial damage expands the right ventricle as well as the left ventricle in some cases. There is a mortality rate of over 40% in patients with fulminant myocarditis who need mechanical circulatory support by peripheral venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. CASE PRESENTATION We report a case of a 27-year-old Jap...

Use of a Long Term Ventricular Assist Device with a Modified Circuit for Short Term Extracorporeal Support in an Infant with Single Ventricle Physiology

The approach to mechanical device support in the pediatric heart failure population, particularly those with congenital heart disease, is rapidly evolving. At our institution we have chosen to use the TandemHeart ventricular assist device with a modified circuit as the primary mode of circulatory support for our congenital heart patient population. In this case report, we describe the use of th...
